Gear Review: NAYAD Aqua Sportswear for Women
By: Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine

Stand up paddlers and surfers are constantly on the hunt for the board they can call "magic" because of how it performs. What if you found stand up paddle aqua sportswear that qualified as "magic"? NAYAD Aqua Sportswear presents a line of aqua sportswear for active lifestyles in and out of the water. This review of Nayad Aqua Sportswear is by Heidi, founder and stand up paddle instructor for Rainbow Watersports on the North Shore of Oahu, HI.

"Are you an active female in and out of the water?  If so, I’ve found your soul mate, or shall I say, your “suit” mate!

I am out in the water almost every day, either swimming with my children, surfing, or stand up paddling.  If I have a day when I do not have the chance to get in the water, I bike, run, or attend a butt-kicking exercise class.

Just as having the right tools make a job easier, we as athletes know that having the right clothing helps us perform better.  I want to be able to focus on my exercise, not my clothing.

The NAYAD company has claimed that their swimwear is so ideal for exercise in or out of the water that they have changed its name to “aqua sports wear”.

When I saw NAYAD’s bold statement, I decided to test out that theory by putting it through my own rigorous exercise routine.  Hey, maybe they were creating just a cute tag line!  I wanted to see if it was for real.  Could their suit hold up under rigorous exercise?

So I ordered my suit on their online site.  It was so much fun to mix and match a design that I liked.  And it was totally customizable!  I got to choose the design, the fit, and the style.  I know ordering clothing online can be risky, but when the suit arrived, it fit me perfectly.

Here’s what I found:

Kai Lenny Gets his First Stand Up Racing World Tour Title and Naish Rocks World on Javelin 12-6 LE's
By: Naish

The SUP racing world has a new champion. All eyes were turned to Hawaii on the weekend of September 13th-14th, for the season finals of the 2012 Standup World Series championship races at Turtle Bay Resort. With $15,000 up for grabs, and the prestigious World Title on the line, you could feel the tension in the air.

Naish brought out their top riders from all over the world to compete, but all eyes were on tour leader Kai Lenny. Saturday was the legendary Long Distance race from Turtle Bay to Haleiwa’s Ali’i Beach. With conditions not being their usual self it all came down to the strongest paddler and course tactics. Being in third for half of the race, Kai turned found his extra gear and was able to put over a minute between himself and racing icon Connor Baxter. For Australian Jake Jensen it was the first time paddling on the north shore and he put his skills to good use placing 4th. Jensen was closely followed by local boy Noa Ginella in 5th place. Casper Steinfath, who already impressed at the BOP in CA, was able to put his flat water paddling skills to good use and came in 7th place. So that makes four Naish riders in the the top ten of the long distance race – not a bad start for the first day of the weekend.

Sunday featured the Sprint Races. Paddlers were greeted with a solid pumping swell that produced pretty unpredictable conditions. The crowd could not believe their eyes when Noa Ginella managed to pull into a barrel and make it out on his Javelin 12’6” LE during the warm up session. With the overall title in mind Kai Lenny snatched the first place in a four-way photo finish to make it a double victory this weekend. He was closely followed by Casper Steinfath in 2nd place. Kody Kerbox placed 7th, Jake Jensen 8th and Noa Ginella 9th – once again half of the top ten finishers were Naish riders using their Javelin 12’6″ LE production boards.

The overall results for the event at Turtle bay show Naish riders in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th.

Kai’s victory both days meant that he took home the inaugural Stand Up World Series Championship title; another World championship trophy to go along with his 2x SUP Surfing World Titles so far.

Congratulations to our entire team – Job well done. We are very proud of you all!

Kai Lenny Takes Long Distance Win on Day 1 of the Finals
By: Waterman League

The Long Distance from Turtle Bay to Ali'i Beach Park in Haleiwa was always going to be a defining race: following one of the most famous stretches of coastline in the world, it is a 12.5 mile paddle with plenty of challenges.

For Kai Lenny, the early stages of the race saw him behind the leaders, but the familiar church spire of Waimea Bay proved to be a turning point in the race, as Kai dug deep and found the right line, to take the lead and storm to victory here on the first day of action at the Stand Up World Series Finals at Turtle Bay.Kai finished this 12.5 mile long distance race in a time of 1:35:15

Small Stand Up Paddle Company Flourishes After Landing Billionaire Mark Cuban on ABC's Shark Tank
By: Tower Paddle Boards

On September 28 at 8/7c, ABC’s Emmy-nominated show Shark Tank will air an update on how Tower Paddle Boards LLC turned a $150,000 investment into a $1.5 million business after the small start-up company signed a deal with billionaire Mark Cuban on the set of the show last season. Since the initial episode aired, Tower has experienced a sales increase of over 800 percent, seen its website traffic triple, and has recruited three new employees in an effort to manage the company’s growth. When Aarstol pitched his company to the Sharks in the Summer of 2011, lifetime sales for the company were at $100,000. The company’s sales for 2012 are now well over $1 million and on pace to exceed $1.5 million by year-end.

“I’m a business builder!” said Cuban after signing the deal with Tower Paddle Boards on the Shark Tank set, “I take small things and make them great things!”

A few months after the deal, Cuban was also quoted in naming Tower Paddle Boards as one of his best Shark Tank investments.

Tower Paddle Boards’ Founder Stephan Aarstol shares his reaction, “Talk about a David and Goliath story! After being up against the Sharks and facing intense rivalry by massive, established competitors in the white-hot stand up paddle board industry, our company not only survived but now we have a celebrity billionaire investor on board and our eyes set on becoming the industry leader!”

The update on Tower’s success story is scheduled to air on ABC’s Shark Tank this fall on September 28 at 8/7c. Shark Tank will also be featured as one of the nominees during the Primetime Emmy Awards Ceremony that previous Sunday, September 23.

About Tower Paddle Boards: Tower (online at ) is a manufacturer- direct stand up paddle board brand with a design-centric focus. Tower is the brand, the importer, the shop, and the marketing arm, all in one. Tower intentionally forgoes the traditional surf/kayak distribution channel, which allows them to sell quality boards at roughly half the price of the competition.

About ABC’s Shark Tank: In its fourth season, ABC's Emmy-nominated Shark Tank program airs on Friday nights 8/7c. The Shark Tank season premier is on September 14th, 2012. Viewership was regularly between 5-6 Million viewers during season 3, and it was consistently one of the top shows in America on Friday nights.
