The Title Race is On for the British Stand Up Paddle Champions 2008

bsupa-dot-org-blue-small (2).gifAs we approach the final event of the 2008 season the title race for the national champion in Stand Up Paddle Surfing and distance racing is on!  This is the first time that national champions have ever been crowned in the UK.  In fact the UK is the first country to have a national governing body for stand up paddle surfing (BSUPA) so it is the first time a national champion has been crowned in the world.

Chip Bock Waterman for Hope 22 Mile Stand Up Paddle

    This Saturday, October 18th at Cocoa Beach, Florids, Right Coast stand up paddler Chip Bock will be paddling 22 miles to raise awareness and support for The Lance Armstrong Foundation and LIVESTRONG. Experiences close to home have charged Chip's efforts to raise funds for these organizations which provide extensive research funding and support for the incredible individuals that LIVESTRONG every day.

 

    Last year, Chip paddled in the event and raised almost $2,000 for the foundation. This year the goal is $4,000. Here is a link to an article of Chip's accomplishment last year entitled "Beachside Man Takes a Paddle to Cancer". Last year, on a 12' Laird, Bock paddled the last 11 miles straight into a 20 mph head wind to complete the course which many were not able to finish because of the harsh conditions. The race will start and finish at Lee Menner Park in Cocoa at the base of the SR 520 Causeway bridge (SR 519).

C4 Waterman/Boardworks Team to Go Big at Battle of the Paddle

SecretSecret Weapon: 13-year-old Slater Trout

Oceanside, CA - (Oct. 9, 2008) - C4 Waterman and their distributor, Boardworks, have rallied a red-hot team of stand up paddle (SUP) racers for this Saturday's $25,000 Battle of the Paddle at Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, California. In addition, they will host a hospitality tent with a full set of demonstration boards and paddles and unveil a couple of their latest models from shaper Dave Parmenter: the 9'3" "Sub-Vector" and the 11'0" "Moochie".

The Hawaii team will feature 13-year-old SUP dynamo Slater Trout, from Maui, and Kauai's consummate waterman Kalani Vierra. Trout will be the youngest paddler to take on the sport's biggest names in the elite division that offers a record winner's purse of $10,000. But don't be misled by Trout's age. At 6'0" and 155 lbs., Slater has been a feature in flat-water races and SUP surfing events in Hawaii over the summer.
