Argentinean Paddle Surfer Connected Two Countries Through the World’s Widest River
By: Facundo Diaz
Buenos Aires, August 2012. – On August 20th, Facundo Martin Diaz, Mistral’s Argentinean rider launched a combination of challenges within the amazing South
American scenery, using M1 Mistral’s Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Board series. These challenges are being recorded into a unique Stand-up Paddle documentary.

The first of these challenges was to link Argentina and Uruguay through the widest river in the World; the dangerous Rio de la Plata river which connects both countries.

An experienced team was brought together, which has been training for several months to offer all the support and security framework for these series of adventures. The team incluyes - Marcus Behrendt, Lucas Correa, Federico Ezcurra, Ramiro Mordcovich and Dario Rojo.

The first challenge began despite the changes in conditions foreseen in the original plan, this added risk to the athlete’s life, primarily because of the high winds of 25 knots/hr and strength in the river’s current. Diaz lost his board and stayed astray signaling with his paddle for 40 minutes, until the security team vessel found him and assisted him.

For those in attendance at the 2012 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Show, Mickey or ‘The Mongoose' as he is commonly known, will be available to share some of his Muñoz spirit, Thursday August 2nd at noon at the C4 Waterman Booth #39138.

Considered by most watermen to be one of surfing’s living treasures, when it comes to surfing, Mickey has literally done it all. He was one of the first Californians to tackle giant surf at Hawaii's Waimea Bay in the modern era. For over 60 years, his surfing equipment portfolio has included everything under the sun: from wood to hollow carbon fiber, long to short, prone to stand-up. “Mickey Muñoz has always been a tremendous role model for me,” says C4 shaper/designer Dave Parmenter. “His scrapbook as a designer/builder includes all types of surfboards, sailboats, racing paddleboards, sailplanes, fairings and just about anything that moves through the sea or the sky.”
