"Daddy, you have an owie on your nose," is what my 4 year old daughter told me with a confused look on her face after yesterday's session. Luckily it wasn't half as bad as it could have been. Stormy weather and choppy surf sent me off paddling in search of new waves. I found some and here's the instant replay of my last wave (to be read in slow motion)"... oooh heere it cooomes, dig deeeep because it's reeally wiiiindyyyy ....ok ...here we go ....paddle ....paddle ...paaaaaadddllleee .....WHACK! ...Ha! (smile) I totally just hit myself in the face with my paddle! Ooh it's bleeding. Shark bait."
That's was it. While I was really digging deep just as the wave was upon me, the paddle handle slipped out of my top hand and smacked me square in the face half way through the strongest stroke I could muster. Nose bleed and the whole bit. Now that I mention it, my forehead is still tender. I had a good laugh with myself out there. Good thing I didn't knock myself silly. Anyway, lesson of the day, put a little wax or something on the handle if you're going to be stroking hard or you may leave the water with a face tattoo. Good times!
