Respect to all the hapai surfers riding for two.

Today's session blew my mind. "Hapai" is the Hawaiian word for lift, carry, bring up child, and to be pregnant. Today, two hapai stand up paddle surfers were charging on Oahu's North Shore. Two pregnant surfers on the same day... same break.

Awestruck on the beach, I watched as both surfers paddled out on a windy and somewhat bumpy morning. They weren't out to just paddle around, they were catching waves with the crew. Both surfers climbed up on their boards and paddled out like it was nothing, smooth and easy.

Great with child and paddle surfing.

I can still see their smiles clearly in my mind as they slid their boards in the water and headed out... genuine smiles that radiate what surfing is all about.

My greatest respect goes out to all the hapai surfers who are riding for two.
