After a killer trip to Dana Point to visit some stand up paddle surfing
shops, I raced rush hour traffic back up to LA to make a two more stops
before the dreaded hour of 6:00 when everything is closed. The first
stop was ZJ Boarding House (www.zjboardinghouse.com) in
Santa Monica. The stars were shining on me for this trip as I found a
parking space right in front of the shop. I was greeted by friendly
staff and a half dozen skaters out in front trying out a new
skateboard. This place is packed with skateboards, snowboards, and
surfboards. They had two SUP boards in stock: one Stewart and one
Surftech Laird. It was the first time I’d seen wood veneer Laird in
person. That’s a good looking board. According to the staff at the
store, Owner, Mikke Pierson is hooked on stand up paddle surfing! I
can’t want to connect with him and talk story.
With one of those GPS things on the dashboard, I was finally off to Action Watersports (www.actionwatersports.com) in
Marina Del Rey to chat with Jay LaPlante. To my surprise, right there
on display in the front window was a shiny, new, C4 Waterman stand up
board. Jay said that for some reason they recieved one of the first
shipments, even before C4 recieved theirs. The SUP stoke is strong at
Action Watersports. They are the leading distributor in the area. You
should definitely make it a stop when you’re in the area. And that’s
it. The next morning I was back on the airplane to Hawaii. I love to
travel and it’s great to be back home. www.SUPsurfMag.com …100% Pure Stoke!
