The 4th annual Hobie / Hennessey’s Waterman’s Challenge, the second stop of the Hennessey’s International Paddleboard Series, comes to Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California Saturday May 30th.
The event features a 6 or 8 mile Pro course cash race as well as a shorter fun 4 mile race for the novice racers who are just getting into the paddle racing scene.
The Pro course features a total $3500 prize purse that will be awarded to the top 3 pro course finishers in each board class, and add to that numerous prizes from event sponsors. To make the pot even sweeter, the top 3 men’s & women’s finishers in the 12’6 Stand Up Paddleboard class, not only take home some fresh greenbacks, but also an elite qualification for the Rainbow Battle of the Paddle.
“This race is special for Hobie, since it takes place in our own backyard,” comments Sean Douglas, Hobie’s marketing director. “Our first race four years ago was one of the first to have a stand up paddleboard division, Chuck Patterson was our first SUP winner on one of our first 12’ SUP proto types, now the competitive curve is almost off the chart. We look forward to a really fun and competitive race”
Race Sponsors: Barcardi, Bud Light, Extreme Drinks, Dakine, H20 Audio, Ocean Minded, Soleo, Hobie Polarized, Ocean Minded, Crossfit Orange County, Stand Up Journal, and O2H Sarcoma Alliance

About Hobie
Hobie's dream was born in his parents’ garage in 1950, when Hobie Alter decided to apply his love of woodworking to the sport of surfing. Over the Next 59 years, plenty of other innovations emerged from Hobie’s imagination: the Hobie Catamaran, innovative Kayaks, Stand Up Paddleboards, world-famous polarized sunglasses and sportswear. It seems incredible that one man’s vision could provide so much fun the world over, but in that department, Hobie stands alone. He didn’t just create toys; he created a way of life. The dream born on the beach in 1950 has become reality not just for Hobie but for generations of dreamers, all of whom continue to spell fun in the sun, the surf and the sand with a flying capital H
