Inaugural Pilgrim Paddle Stand Up Paddleboard Race Schedule Set |

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The First Annual Pilgrim Paddle is set for Saturday, Nov. 28 at Spa Beach on the downtown St. Peters waterfront. The inaugural event will be a relay-style stand up paddleboard race for teams of two people, with each member completing a circuit along the famous St. Petersburg Pier.
The Pilgrim Paddle is open to competitors of all skill levels – beginners are especially encouraged to participate. There are six competition divisions: Men, Women and Coed in both a stand-up and prone positions (all divisions use stock boards 12'6” and shorter). Registration is $45 per team ($55 after Nov. 23.)
Race day will begin with registration opening at 8 a.m., a paddlers meeting at 9 a.m., and the coed relay starting at 9:15. Men's and Women's relays start at 10:15. Trophy and award presentations will follow at 11:30 a.m. Paddle Board demonstrations will start at 11:45 a.m.
“Stand Up Paddling's popularity is really three-fold: it's adaptable to almost any water condition, it's a great core workout, and it's a lot of fun!” said Stand Up Fitness Proprietor Brody Welte. “Add the fact it is really easy to learn, and you understand why it is the fastest growing water sport in the world.”
Stand Up Fitness, Inc. and Kahuna Kai Paddle & Surf Shop in Madeira Beach are the race operators. Both offer Stand Up Paddling (SUP) lessons, rentals and sales; Stand Up Fitness also offers personal fitness programs and “Boot Camps” on SUP boards around the Tampa Bay Area.
