South Walton Lifeguards Black and On the Coast Magazine finish first in the Men’s and Women’s divisions of in the race series hosted by YOLO Board
Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. (June 1, 2009) – YOLO Board LLC announces the results of the second 2009 YOLO Board Stand Up Paddle Series Race event on May 21st at the Boathouse in WaterColor on Western Lake. The South Walton Lifeguards Black team consisting of Gary Wise, Sean Hughes, Joe Serrato and Andy Scheid took first in the Men’s Division with a winning time of 20 minutes 53 seconds. The On the Coast Magazine team of Nancy Babin, Julie Ogle, Debbie Hunter, and Jackie Vreuls won the Women’s Division race with a time of 25 minutes 59 seconds. There were thirteen men’s teams competing and 9 women’s teams in the race.
The contest for the top three spots in both divisions has proved to be highly competitive with the same three teams finishing in the top three spots as the first race in both the men’s and the women’s divisions. Second place finishers in the men’s race were the Destin Lifeguards and third were the South Walton Lifeguards Gold team. Kitty Hawk Kites-Piranhas and Team Balance Studio placed second and third respectively in the women’s race.
“What an awesome race!” said Jeff Archer, co-founder of YOLO Board. “After the quick rain shower, it turned into a beautiful evening and the fierce competition between both the women’s and the men’s teams is so exciting to witness. Everyone had a great time, and we are excited about the way the 2009 race series is unfolding.”
The next race event is scheduled for Friday June 19st at Baytowne Marina in the Sandestin Golf and Beach resort. The 22 teams will continue on to compete throughout the series as they vie for the champion title “YOLO Board Cup Series” to be awarded after the final race in August. Race dates (weather permitting) are: June 19th, July 23rd & August 13th.
The Boathouse at WaterColor provided an idyllic setting for the race. Emcee Mike Sturdivant of BlueMountainSurf.com entertained the spectators with his hilarious commentary. Presenting sponsor Aesthetic Clinique added to the fun with a raffle for a $250 gift certificate that was awarded to Alex Gogol of Swantree Concierge at the end of the event. Vitamin Water provided free beverages to all attendees.
