The North Point Stand Up Paddle Classic 2009 was held over the weekend of May 30-31 and was an outstanding event. The contest was 100% stand up paddle with some of the best French riders including Ronan Chatain, the famous waterman from La Torche, Jeremy Boisson, winner of the 2008 SUP French Tour, Rico Leroy, Tandem Surf World Champ, Thomas Jonquour, pro surfer, Bruno Andre, pro windsurfer, and the windsurfing legend, Robert Teriitehau. The weather was amazing, sunny all day long, windy and warm with crystal blue water. 20 competitors arrived for the 4 kilometer race on Saturday with Rico Leroy placing first in 31 minutes and 26 seconds. Rico crossed the Molokai Channel in Hawaii last year in the OC1 division. Sunday morning brought 30 riders ready to surf. The waves were small, yet rippable, and everyone was stoked to be there. Local rider, Greg Closier, won the surf final. Top performance was also seen by Jeremy Boisson from Lacanau. Once again Tomahawk Surf Club did a great job and would like to thank the sponsors: sunshort.com, Kialoa, Paddle Surf Hawaii, North Point Surf Shop, and Hoalen. Here are the results:
