(Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico –July 11, 2011) – SUP Mexico and Bliss Events Los Cabos announce the 2^nd Annual Los Cabos Classic, SUP Mexico – Mike Doyle, Stand-Up Paddle Race. The Classic will take place in beautiful Los Cabos November 4 – 6, 2011, at Palmilla Beach.   The Classic benefits Tortuga Foundation, which supports Cabos’ sea life.

Snell Real Estate and Del Mar Development again have signed on as The Classic’s presenting sponsors.  SUP Mexico and Bliss Events are pleased to have them on board and their continued support with stand-up paddling and to bettering our community.  It is thanks to Del Mar Development and Snell Real Estate that The Classic was a success in its inaugural year.  We look forward to having them as an intricate part of the 2011 event. 

The Classic will feature three days of races comprised of different race lengths and formats, two turtle releases, beach activities for children and adults, live entertainment, food and beverages, opening and closing ceremonies and more.  More than 100 racers are expected, including several SUP pros and amateur racers from Mexico, Canada and the United States. 

Stand-up paddling is gaining momentum as the fastest growing water sport worldwide.  SUP Mexico looks forward to showcasing this environmentally friendly sport, as well as educating locals and visitors about the the importance of sea turtle preservation.

For the last 11 years, the Cabo Tortugas Foundation has been entrusted with protecting the sea turtles in Los Cabos.  The Foundation has five protected nests and works closely with local hotels and authorities to protect the turtles in their natural environment.

Legendary surfer and paddler Mike Doyle, part-time resident of the Los Cabos, is  this year’s Classic Ambassador.  This waterman brings a spirit and passion for the water and sport that are so unique and admired by many. He has been so dear to SUP Mexico and we appreciate him taking time to be a part of this event.  Mike will race in The Classic on his new Doyle racing board, providing a demonstration on paddling to interested spectators and working with kids to teach water safety.   For more information on Mike Doyle, please visit his blog at http://mike-doyle.blogspot.com/

Friday, November 4^th, 4:30-7 pm

Opening Ceremonies- (Sponsor and racers only). Hors d’oeuvres/drinks, turtle release, and racer packet pick up.

Saturday, November 5^th, 9am – 5pm (competitors begin at 7:30am)

RACE DAY #1 - (Elite 10-mile race, Punta Gorda to Palmilla (P2P) & Kids SUP race). Festivities begin at 9am, Open to the public featuring children’s activities, stand up paddle demonstration, entertainment, raffle tickets, food and beverages available for sale.

*Beach concert, 6-10pm – Everyone is invited to attend the beach party featuring a live band, drinks and food available for purchase. Tickets will be available for purchase at the event or at Snell Real Estate. 

Sunday, November 7th, 9am-5pm (Competitors begin at 8:30am)

 RACE DAY #2 - (4-mile race & 3 person team relay). Open to the public, featuring children’s activities, stand up paddle demonstration, entertainment, raffle tickets, food and beverages available for sale.

*Closing Ceremonies, 4-7pm: Public Turtle Release, taco’s, drinks and Awards Ceremony (open for all). Tickets will be available for purchase at the door or for pre-purchase at SUP Mexico. 

Admission to the daily activities is FREE
