TREASURE
ISLAND, FL (October 2011) On November 5, 2011 from 10am-4pm, participants will
have the opportunity to experience a variety of water sports while supporting a
charitable cause during the first annual Kite4Kids Water Sport Festival.
In years past, area kiteboarders have hosted a
charity downwind kite race to benefit All Children’s Hospital. Rider entrance
fees, raffle tickets and donations added up to almost $10,000 in the past two
years combined. This year, race co-founder, Julie Anderson wants to take it to
a new level. “I want more members of our community to come out and get to
experience the water sports that so many of us enjoy.” Instead of only holding the traditional
kite race (which is set to take place on Jan 7, 2012 or later) area water
sports enthusiasts will be hosting a one-of-a-kind wind and water sports
festival at Treasure Island Beach.
Supporters of all ages will have the opportunity to
take part in a wide variety of activities. There will be “experiences” set up
so that people who may have always wanted to try a particular sport can do so
under the supervision of experienced watermen. There will be a kiteboarding,
stand up paddle boarding, and skimboarding experiences. Local surf shops will
be out to demo their boards and kites and offer their expertise. For the
advanced water sports enthusiast, there will be a series of “clinics” by
professional and world famous riders.
There will also be three stand up paddle board races
for three levels of experience., including an action packed elite SUP race
where some of the world’s best paddlers will be going head-to-head,
paddle-to-paddle, along the Gulf Beaches. Finally, kids of all ages will have
fun flying traditional kites, participating in the “experiences” as well as a
variety of other activities like sand castle and hula hoop contests.
This festival is open to the public and participants
will pay admission based on a tiered system of their activity preference: $10
for just pro clinics $20 for admission to all three experiences. A discount will be provided for
families of 4 or more. There is a separate registration fee for SUP and KITE
racers. Lastly, live music, concessions, and a silent auction will take place
at the event site. ALL PROCEEDS
FROM THIS EVENT WILL BENEFIT ALL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL.
