BOSTON, MA. April 30, 2012 – The Boston Tea Paddle is a coming out party for stand up paddling in the hub of New England. The first SUP event to be held on Boston Harbor offers races for everyone young an old, seasoned paddler to first time racer, as well as free clinics for neophyte paddlers. Taking place on spectacular Liberty Wharf in the heart of the developing Seaport District, the Boston Tea Paddle brings the excitement of the World’s fastest growing water sport to one of America’s most historic cities.
Top local and visiting stand up paddle competitors will vie for the equal men’s and women’s $2000 first prize on the technical 5 mile Elite Buoy course where a total of $7000 in prize money is up for grabs in this World Paddle Association sanctioned event.
Saturday June 16th will also feature a short 2.5 mile Open Buoy fun race that is ideal for the weekend paddler or first time racer. A 200M kids race and 200M sprint elimination race will round out events on Saturday. On Liberty Wharf’s deck and docks will be vendor tents, demos, and SUP clinics.
On Sunday the 17th there will be a 9 mile distance race through Boston Harbor passing near the site of the original Boston Tea Party. There will also be the co-ed Team Relay race. Free Father's Day SUP clinics will get people out in the water and on stand up boards for their first time.
An exclusive party and charity auction with a time TBA, will include a custom Joe Bark paddle board and many other unique items. All of the buoy races and sprints can easily be viewed from the public deck and any of Liberty Wharf’s water front restaurants. Liberty Wharf creates an exciting atmosphere for spectators and competitors alike. Kick start the summer with a Father’s Day weekend to remember full of stand up paddling in Boston’s revitalized Seaport District. More importantly, come down to raise money and awareness for Journey Forward to help people with spinal cord injuries.
