Monday, 31 January 2011

With the Hawaiian winter swells now in full swing, the Sunset Beach Pro is just around the corner, with the start scheduled for Sunday 6th February. Tension is rising as the athletes prepare to do battle at one of the world's most infamous and challenging waves.

As Kai Lenny steps up to defend both his event title at Sunset, but also his World Title, his compeition will be hoping to take down this young Champion from Maui on his home turf in Hawaii, whether it be arch rival Peyo Lizarazu, rising stars Leco Salazar and Antoine Delpero, Hawaiian challengers Robin Johnston, Duane DeSoto and Ikaika Kalama to mention just a few , or the leading Tahitian and Australian frontrunners. You can also never count out local favorites such as Kamaki Worthington and Kala Alexander, especially if the waves end up being of consequence. The field is wide open at this point and it is truly anyone's as we prepare for one of the most exciting showdowns in the sport's history.

Steeped in the tradition and history of surfing and located just steps from the Statue of Duke Kahanamoku in Waikiki, we are proud to bring the Opening Ceremony and press conference for the 2011 Sunset Beach Pro to Duke's Waikiki on Saturday 5th February.

Na Kama Kai Youth
We are proud to continue our relationship with the ever growing non profit founded by Stand Up World Tour athlete and current longboard World Champion, Duane DeSoto. Duane and his team have been bringing their message around the world in 2010 in conjunction with the Stand Up World Tour, as they have reached and touched the lives of so many children in need - the Na Kama Kai clinics are a message of hope for these keikis and the Stand Up World Tour is committed to not only continue its support, but increase its involvement in 2011, with the help of its sponsors and local support.

There is no better place than home for Duane and his crew to continue their work, as he will be joined by the Stand Up World Tour's best in providing an unforgettable day for some of Hawaii's most deserving, underprivileged youth - the Stand Up World Tour special clinic will take place on February 13th at Waikiki.
