Duke's Waikiki Hosts 4th Annual Waterman's Relay Race |

HONOLULU – (April 18, 2011) - Paying homage to Duke Kahanamoku, one of Hawaii’s greatest athletes, Duke’s Waikiki is holding its 4th annual Waterman’s Relay race on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 8 a.m. The relay will take place in the waters fronting Duke’s Waikiki, with teams of three competing in a relay consisting of 12 600-meter laps. Teams will cover the out and back course through the surf zone and transition at the beach in this spectator friendly event. The teams of three are split into the following five divisions:
- Combined team member ages of 119 and under
- Combined age of 120 and over
- Mixed gender
- Family - at least two of the team must be immediate family members
- Stand-up paddleboard
Following the race, Duke’s Waikiki is holding a breakfast award ceremony where prizes will be given to the overall top finishers and winners from each division. Registration is $60 per team and will be accepted up until the day of the event at Duke’s Waikiki. For more information, call Duke’s Waikiki at 922-2268.
Named after Duke Kahanamoku, Olympic gold medalist and father of modern day surfing, Duke’s Waikiki proudly perpetuates the long-standing tradition of water sports in Hawaii. The annual Waterman’s Relay and the Duke’s Ocean Mile Swim are just a few examples of the many ocean-sporting events that take place at Duke’s Waikiki throughout the year.
