The year of 2008 has finally come to a close. While for some it has come as a relief to have a fresh start, for the stand up paddle industry the future continues to look bright after unprecedented growth over the last year. While it has been a rollercoaster ride for many businesses, both surf and non-surf industry related, Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine statistics show that the stand up paddle industry has flourished over the last year showing an immense flood of interest in the sport.

We feel that our site statistics are a valid indicator of stand up paddle industry growth. As we all know, when our interest is peaked about any given topic, the first place we go to is the free and most up to date resource available, the internet. New stand up paddlers will go to search engines such as Google and search for “stand up paddle,” and there we are at the top. When they visit our site, a third party statistics tracking mechanism records the data for each visitor’s location, time spent on the site, etc., which is then compiled and can be analyzed over time. That said, here is what www.supsurfmag.com site statistics show about industry growth over the last 12 months.

Starting January 1, 2008 until the end of the year, visitor traffic to Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine has grown an average of about 400% with peaks of almost 700%. Growth throughout the year has been steady and consistent indicating a healthy yet phenomenal growth rate.
v Hundreds of thousands of page views and visit numbers well into the six digits indicate a massive population of stand up paddlers who have been drawn to the sport. Furthermore, the greatness with which the latter part of last year overshadows the earlier half in terms of traffic and readership, the upcoming year promises to be a mind-blowing benchmark in industry growth.

The average reader for 2008 stayed with Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine almost 4 minutes each time they visited. What does this say? Stand up paddlers are reading content and learning all they can about the sport. In a day of quick web surfing, those who are new to the sport are genuinely interested in what the community has to offer and are making time to absorb all the information available to them.

The average visitor for 2008 would view multiple pages of Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine with each visit to the site. This indicates that stand up paddlers are genuinely interested in the development of the sport. The most frequented pages of the magazine were gear reviews and equipment related articles, an indication of a buying market.

Visit from 141 countries and territories around the world and all 50 states with the United States indicate widespread global growth. Top countries include the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Brazil and Japan.

The numbers speak for themselves. As far as we can tell, the stand up paddle industry continues to flourish in the time of stagnant growth for the greater majority of businesses. What is fueling the growth? Well, that’s a topic we’ll visit another time. For now, the numbers don’t lie and the stand up paddle industry continues to boom.
