Lanakila Outrigger Canoe Club in Southern California is raffling off 2 Joe Bark boards this summer to raise money for the Ocean of Hope(O2H)campaign.
This winter, we raised over $4000 by selling tickets for another one of Joe's boards, all of which was donated to the Sarcoma Alliance. This summer, Joe has built a custom 12’6” racing SUP that is slated to be unbelievably fast and fun; the second paddleboard will be a “surprise board” but as with all Joe’s boards, it will be fast, well-built and great for racing and training.
One board will be raffled off at the Catalina Classic after - party in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, April 30th. The second board will be raffled off at the Lifeguard and Paddleboard Festival in Hermosa Beach on Saturday, September 19th. Winners need not be present to win.
For those that don't know, O2H was created to support the Sarcoma Alliance, a nonprofit group that is the gathering place for those afflicted with sarcoma, a devastating cancer that is difficult to diagnose and even harder to cure. People who suffer from the disease and their families have a place to find guidance, education and support, as well as to find current medical information and treatment options, and to network with others.
The Sarcoma Alliance is an invaluable resource for those with the disease. The money raised through the Ocean of Hope can help cancer sufferers and survivors find hope, life and some day, a cure. This I think is reason enough to give, and why I got involved with the Ocean of Hope and the Sarcoma Alliance in the first place.
The Sarcoma Alliance is not a big, corporate organization. It does not have major sponsors or huge overhead costs. 95 % of its donations go directly to helping cancer patients help themselves through education and doctor networks. You can read more about the organization at www.sarcomaalliance.org You can also donate through the Ocean of Hope website at www.active.com/donate/outriggerO2H2009/aspector
If you would like tickets, you can send a check made out to the Sarcoma Alliance addressed to Aimee Spector c/o Ocean of Hope 1714 Havemeyer LaneRedondo Beach CA 90278 . Send the address where I can mail back yourraffle stubs. The winner of the first board will be put back into the pot for the second board, so you have the chance of winning two boards this summer.
Tickets are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5 , 4 for $10, 8 for $20, 16 for $40...you get the idea. You can buy as many tickets as you want. That’s a pretty good price for 2 outstanding paddle boards and a tax-write off!
