HONOLULU - This year's Longboard World Championship,
the OXBOW Wave Sliders, will take place
at Makaha Beach on Oahu, Hawaii from October 29 to November 7,
2010.
The current selection of riders is impressive: the best
longboarders worldwide will gather upon this famous surf spot in hopes of
landing the coveted title of ASP World Longboard Champion. The Australian
titleholder, Harley Ingleby, will indeed be challenged this year. The local
Hawaiian heroes, Bonga Perkins and Duane DeSoto, will put all their strength
into the competition in order to win the title in their home waters in front of
the Hawaiian audience. The best European longboarders, Antoine Delpero and Ben
Skinner, will put their heart and soul into challenging the eclectic group of
talented Hawaiian, Californian and Brazilian athletes.
The competitors
should also have a careful eye on Colin McPhilips, the skilled and routined
triple World Longboard Champion.
Hawaii participants include Bonga Perkins,Kai Sallas, Ned Snow, Duane Desoto,
Keegan Edwards, Rusty Keaulana, Nelson Ahina and Kekoa Auwae. One more seat will
be available for the winner of the local trials.
This year's
competitors will surely leave us breathless!
OXBOW's special guest, the surf legend Nat Young, will attend the opening ceremony on October 29, and will share his feelings about the long awaited competition and celebration via our event website: www.oxbowavesliders.com.
In addition to the main longboard challenge, the OXBOW Wave Sliders will include free ride SUP, Alaia and surfing sessions organized to highlight the rider's multi-faceted watermen skills: true to the belief that "there is no wrong way to ride waves!" (Laird Hamilton).
