Don't miss this stand up paddle event at Brand Beach, Long Beach Island, New Jersey presented by New Jersey Windsurfing Watersports Association and Island Surf & Sail. 

Event: NJWWA Fun Festat Bayview Park.

Organizer: The New JerseyWindsurfing and Watersports Association 

Venue:Competitionwill take place within the cove at Bayview Park, 68th St., BrantBeach, Long Beach Island, New Jersey. (Little Egg Harbor). A limited number ofSUP boards will be available on a first come first served basis.

Teams: Younger/InexperiencedPaddlers will be paired up with Older/Experienced Stand-Up PaddleSurfers. Therace is open to men, women, and children age 10 years and older. Allcompetitors are encouraged to join the NJWWA

Prizes: Dual Trophies will be awarded tothe Top Three Finishing Pairs.

Start: LeMans style Beach Start with competitors standingin the water next to their board. Each competitor may be randomly assignedtheir starting station at the line. Amateur Younger/Inexperienced competitorswill start first. You will be allowed 5strokes to get on your feet and stand up. Each competitor must complete thecourse in a standing position on their board. Paddlers must follow the RaceCommittee’s instructions. Final instructions will be announced prior to thestart of the race.

Relay: After roundingthe last mark, each Amateur competitor must paddle in towards the designatedbeach area and “high five” their partner, who will be waiting in the shallowwater in the designated beach area. The choice is yours if you use the same ordifferent equipment. 

Finish: After roundingthe last mark, paddlers will finish in a standing position, leaving the boardon shore, running to the finish line carrying their paddle. Each paddler must cross the finish line. Competitors mustnot leave the finish area until their place, name and number, has been recordedby the scorer. Top finishers will be encouraged to perform an SUP TalentExhibition.

Starting Numbers: Numberedvests will be provided by theorganizers.

Courses: A course circuit will be set within Little Egg Harbor, between the boatchannel and the shoreline. Marks may consist of buoys, no-wake markers, andislands.

·       The Amateur/ FirstLeg will be a shortened course for the younger/less experienced part of theteam, approximately 1/4 mile long.

·       The Professional/Second Leg will feature a bayside course designed to challenge thecompetitor’s technical and athletic skills, approximately 1.0 mile long.

Rules: The course is around all marks as directed by the RaceCommittee.  At no time during the race may a competitor impede anothercompetitor. Unsportsmanlike conduct/actions may result indisqualification.  Any competitor failing to round all buoys will bedisqualified. Any shifting or hassling for position in line after crossing thefinish line will result in disqualification. Race Committee shall beresponsible for officiating event start, relay, and finish.  RaceCommittee has the final say in disqualification rulings and finishes. Race competitorsmust ride stock class SUP boards and paddles.

SUP – You Must BeStanding – 5 Five Stroke Rule: Ifa competitor falls, he will be allowed 5 strokes to get back on his or her feetand stand up. This rule is in effect so a paddler does not achieve an advantageby not standing up.  Each competitor must complete the course in astanding position on their board.

Registration/ Fees: $25/ ($15NJWWA Members) includes:

Beginner Windsurfing, SUP, & Kayak Lessons.

Schedule: Registration opens at 9am. Please check in by 12:00.

Earliest Skipper’sMeeting after lunch, at 12:30pm

Racing possible between1:00pm – 2:00pm

Time schedules may vary; 1 Relay Race will be run.

Liability: Competitors take part in all races attheir own risk.  NJWWA, US Windsurfing, US Sailing, ISAF, PWA, orany of their officials or representatives or the sponsors or their officials orrepresentatives are not responsible, under any circumstances, for any damage,loss or injury either ashore or on the water either to persons or equipment,which may result. Participation in this event, supporting events and in eachrace in them is at the sole discretion of the sailor and at his/her own risk.Signed waivers are required by each participant.

Media: By registering for the event, competitors automatically grant to NJWWA,US Windsurfing, the right in perpetuity to make, use and show at theirdiscretion, any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or filmed television,whether electronic or otherwise, and other reproduction or derivative of them,taken during the period of the event, as defined in the Notice of Race andPaddling Instructions in which he/she participates without compensation.

Paddling Instructions: ThePaddling Instructions and Race Time will be announced at the Skipper’s Meeting.

Protests: Protests are discouraged. These are “fun” races and sailors areadvised to avoid collisions, and to know the rules. A Protest Committee may notbe formed unless there is personal injury or property damage. Protests may beconducted on another date and/ or via email. Protests may result in abandonmentof race.

Boater in Distress: A competitor rendering aid to aboat in distress may be granted redress and scored in the position they were inat the time.

Directions: From Garden State Parkway, take exit 63 and head east onroute 72. After 7.4 miles (crossing the bridge onto the island) turn right ontoSouth Long Beach Blvd at the T junction. Head South for 2.6 miles then turnright into Bayview Park parking lot, opposite 68th street (Meade Ave) anddirectly opposite the tennis courts and ball field associated with Long BeachTownship Municipal Buildings.

From Philadelphia, take PA Turnpike I-276 East over NJ Turnpike ConnectorBridge, follow signs for New York and North, merge onto northbound NJ Turnpikeone exit to #7, Bordentown US-206. After toll booth, stay straight and followsigns for US-206 South. After 18 miles at traffic circle, take the 3rd exitonto Rte-70. Travelling about 8 miles to traffic circle, take the 1st exit ontoBarnegat Rd/NJ-72/Rte-72, continue to follow Rte-72 28 miles onto the island.Right on Boulevard Head South for 2.6 miles then turn right into Bayview Parkparking lot, opposite 68th street (Meade Ave) and directly opposite the tenniscourts and ball field associated with Long Beach Township Municipal Buildings.
