Standup for the Cure Presented by Riviera Paddlesurf www.standup-for-the-cure.org announces the first ever Standup for the Cure Solidarity Paddle for Breast Cancer awareness benefitting the Susan G Komen for the Cure Foundation.  On May 5th, 2012 in Newport Beach, Ca, hundreds of Standup Paddlers wearing pink will hit the water with the goal of raising $30,000 for the fight against breast cancer.  What started out as a community fundraising event in Orange County has developed into a nationwide movement.  “We’re getting inquiries from the east coast, Midwest and as far south as Texas from paddlers who want to support the cause.” says Judie Vivian, breast cancer survivor and head of the non-profit Standup for the Cure.  “We’d like to invite Standup paddlers from across the nation to gather together in their favorite spots at 10:30 am Pacific Time on May 5th, put on some pink and paddle to show their support for this great cause.”

Riviera Paddlesurf http://www.rivierapaddlesurf.com , Maui Jim www.mauijim.comand Kona Brewing Companywww.konabrewingco.com have joined forces to produce the Standup for the Cure Event in Newport Beach and the first of its kind Nationwide “Solidarity Paddle” for Breast Cancer Awareness.  If you are unable to attend the Standup for the Cure Festival in Newport Beach you are invited to gather all of your paddling friends at your home beach, lake, harbor or river and join us in our fight to save lives.  Ideally participants would purchase Official Standup for the Cure Jerseys from the Victory Koredry website www.victorykd.com (a portion of the proceeds go to Standup for the Cure) and wear them as a show of support while photo documenting your paddle adventure.  You can also show support by making a donation through our “Active Giving” portal on the web site: http://www.active.com/donate/standup-for-the-cure  to help us reach our $30,000 fundraising goal.  Please submit photos and stories about why this cause is important to you so we can post them on our Facebook Fan page: http://www.facebook.com/StandupForTheCure

“Standup Paddling (SUP) is the perfect avenue for raising awareness for the fight against breast cancer.”  Explains event director Dan Van Dyck “SUP is the fastest growing watersport of our generation.  It’s relatively easy to learn and you can paddle anywhere there is a body of water.  Picture hundreds of paddlers wearing pink “Standup for the Cure” Jerseys across the country in a show of support for breast cancer survivors.  Eventually we’ll have a Standup for the Cure event in major cities nationwide. “  More information on how to support Standup for the Cure can be found on our web sitewww.standup-for-the-cure.org

I am so looking forward to this event and helping fight cancer. I have convinced all my friends to join in, even the ones that don't know how to paddle board. Can't wait to see the sea of pink!
