Maine’s first annual Paddleboard Jousting Competition will be a sporting activity for adult participants during the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 1:30 p.m on the Rockland waterfront. The event is a partnership between Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors and ThorFinn Expeditions.
Canoe jousting was once a popular sport in Maine – perched atop the gunwales of an Old Town Canoe, young men and women would attempt to knock a competitor into the water using a paddle. Today, paddleboards are all the rage, and a growing activity among active, water-loving Mainers. It’s another example of how Tradition Shapes Innovation™—as modern developments bring a new twist to Maine products and activities. While this is technically a competition, the co-ed event will introduce a fun, organized sporting event to the show, provide entertainment for spectators, and promote interest in stand-up paddleboarding. Competitors must be pre-approved.
