Narragansett Town Beach, July 21, 2012 – Narragansett, Rhode Island: Garrett McNamara hosts WATERMAN ECO-CHALLENGE 2012 – “Raising Awareness To Ocean and Sun Safety”
Narragansett Parks & Recreation alongside Narragansett Surf Rescue, proudly partner with WaveJet, Eco Friendly Jet Powered Rescue Board and Raw Elements USA, Chemical Free Sunscreen to present the 2nd annual WATERMAN ECO-CHALLENGE 2012 on Environmental Day at Narragansett Town Beach. Saturday, July 21 will be a safe, fun filled day at the beach packed with a 3 mile open ocean paddle race, exciting professional rescue clinics and races, patron Stand Up Paddle clinics and patron interactive ocean and sun safety clinics. Garrett McNamara returns to Narragansett Beach after being awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest wave ever ridden last month. The day’s festivities will provide a platform to raise awareness to ocean and sun safety.
Contestants from all over will be able to enter the 3 mile ocean paddle at the Town Beach either
on a traditional Paddle Board or on a new and exciting Stand Up Paddle Board. It will be a great way for everyone to “Come Out And Paddle!” This will be the second time WaveJet Rescue Board will be on display and integrated into lifesaving. Also added this year, the WaveJet Lifesaving Paddle Challenge – Lifesaving teams from across the nation will be invited to send their best paddler in an open water race against the WaveJet board. The top paddler will receive cash prize and the Lifesaving Agency, a complimentary WaveJet rescue board. Warm Winds Surf Shop will be offering a complimentary Stand Up Paddle Clinic for patrons to have the opportunity to try out the new sport. Interactive educational tents will be set up for beach goers all day to learn all about safety at the beach with Narragansett Surf Rescue Lifeguards.
The World Champion is excited to return to Narragansett, “last year was such an amazing success and I am thrilled to be back in Rhode Island working with Narragansett Lifesaving team again. This year’s races are going to be very exciting!” says McNamara.

From a lifesaving perspective we accomplished a great deal last year and the event could not have been better, we’re expecting even more competitors this year.” proclaims Narragansett Water Safety Director, Dave Cannon. “We are thrilled to be working with the WaveJet team again and together we’ve planned
some really cool events.”
