A huge thanks to Surf-n-Sea in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu for hosting a successful night time paddle out under a full moon and inviting us to come along.
This was the third time Surf-n-Sea hosted the paddle out and it promises to continue as a regular event. By 8:00pm boards littered the beach behind the surf shop while paddlers received instruction from Surf-n-Sea staff while they adorned themselves with glow stick lanyards and bracelets to be seen at night.
At about 8:30pm both experienced paddlers and beginners alike, about 45 in all, slid their boards into the black twinkling ocean water in the still of the evening. Paddling by moonlight is an experience not to be missed. Whether it’s flat water paddling, or riding small waves, paddling out by the light of the moon is a blend of fun times with friends and the serenity of the ocean at night.
Conditions permitting, the next moonlight paddle out is scheduled for October 3rd. That’s right at the start of the winter surf season, so if there’s surf we’ll play in the day, and if the ocean is flat we’ll play at night.

I've been thinking somewhat along the same lines. I live in Hilo, Big Island, and regular surf on full moons, but never done it on SUP

I am part of a small group of paddlers here on Maui that paddle before work 2 to 3 times a week before the sun comes up. We've been thinking about doing a full moon evening paddle and after reading your short article will make sure we do! Sounds like loads of fun!!!
