South Country Sup 2 Years, 9 Months ago
|
|
|
Hi folks, I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone can comment on these big wide boards from South Country Sup located in southern California. They are 8'-11' and 34"-36" wide. I sup on the Great Lakes and am looking for a board with more float ( less bouyancy in the sweet water).
Thanks in advance for any advise.

Do you mean South County Sup? I've never heard of South Country. I just bought a South County board and I went out Saturday in poor conditions and was very impressed. I can't wait to ride a good wave and get used to the board. It is leaps and bounds better than my Laird.
Compared to my friends, I have always been the one riding the out of the box shapes but I have also been the one catching the most waves and having the most fun. Plus the thick and wide SoCo board suits me perfect at 6 feet tall and 230(out of shape) pounds.
The South County board floats me great and I was so happy to find a board that matches the shape, dimensions I had in my head.

Thanks for the reply.
Yep South County, that's what I meant, a bit of dyslexia I guess.
I just ordered an 11'er and John said it should be hear in a week or so. I'm 6' 220 lbs. so I'm glad to hear the board works for you, I'm pretty stoked. I'll be using mine on the Great Lakes for flat water and smaller wave days. The bigger size should work well in the fresh water.

Hey dot;
I have an 11' SoCo. Nope, no sales tax, or as John said, "unless you want to pay".
I've had my board for about 2 weeks now. I've been out probably 4 times in less than ideal conditions, each time it has been in 1-2 foot windy chop. The board has performed great, it is as stable as a dock I always come in dry. Paddling up wind I managed all the bobbing , rocking, and rolling the quick wave periods of Lake Erie threw at me. Down wind was a blast, the board paddled easy and I cruised along the inconsistent swells. I wouldn't say I surfed any waves but more like quickly floated along the tops of the waves. I can't wait till I get a day when the lake breaks. As far as flat water paddling, I was able to get a little time on the alee side of the jetty. The board had a nice glide, I'm looking forward to a flat day or a trip to a small inland lake.
Service was great! John took plenty of time with me answering all the questions I had, we emailed just about everyday for a week and a half. We still talk after the sale. Drop John a line, he's a no pressure kinda guy, always willing to help. All in all I'm very happy with my South County!
I hope this helps.
