My husband and I are trying to get a charity event together based on him being the first person to stand up paddle from the island Bonaire (where we live currently) to the island Curacao (both islands are in the Caribbean, part of the Netherland Antilles). The trip is approximately 35 miles, one way. Has anyone else done this kind of an event? Our plan for the charity revolves around Devon's (my husband's) dad. He is a struggling independent roofer in Georgia, who needs double knee replacement in a bad way. He can't even get on the roofs to do his work anymore. Our main goal is to get enough money for him for the surgery, but would like to raise enough to provide for many people in the same circumstances. We would like to get this event out into the public, with sponsorships. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
