I'm quite interested in the 11'6" Randy French Surftech soft top board which a store in town is selling for $1050. A local shaper says he can build me a board similar which includes taxes and paddle for between $1000 - $1400. Which would you go for? I'm not sure if it would be difficult dealing with Surftech if I ever need to call them vs just calling up the local shaper guy. But then, I'm not sure how much I can trust the local shapers skills and materials he uses vs an established company like Surftech.

Shoot, the custom buy would be the best if he can tailor your board to your weight, uses, and other requirements...somebody in the area should be able to speak to the shaper's abilities or lack thereof.
